Today, at 6am, I was woken by violent gusts of wind. The extremely hot and dry weather we had for a couple of days has brought an angry storm. This, in itself, is of course nothing out of the ordinary at this time of year, but the sheer force of todays winds, and the fact that I was able to record it without any fear of distortion – made this event quite unique. Fortunately I was conscious enough to grab the equipment and place it just outside my window. That proved to be sufficient. The wind, squeezed into the yard and rustling franticly in the trees, produced tones I’ve never heard before. The rain that came afterwards was rather moderate; there were a few heavy thunders, and the storm passed within an hour.
